I Can Run a Marathon, WE can Beat Cancer

Finish LineThree years ago I started running. Although I’ve always been athletic, I was never a runner. I remember that first two-mile run… I didn’t know if I was going to make it. Fast forward three years later and I’m still running.

I’ve decided to take my running to the next level. I’m going to push myself to do something I never thought I could do.

Dustin (my part-time running partner and full-time boyfriend/cheerleader) started encouraging me earlier this year that I could do a full marathon. I kept saying no, 13.1 miles was as far as I can go.

Then one Sunday morning while out for bagels he presented me with a Team In Training brochure. “You can do this,” he said. He had done a Team In Training bike fundraiser a few ago and is a huge believer.

Like everyone, cancer has impacted several members of my family and friends. I started to wonder if I could run a marathon. Then I started to think of a couple of the people in my life recently who faced cancer. They never wondered if they could beat cancer, they knew they could. They just believed.

We need to find a cure and I want to be an active part of the fight against cancer. To accomplish that mission, I’ve signed up for the LA Marathon as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. It will be my first marathon!

Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures. My first practice is this Sunday and I have a goal to raise $200 in the next 2 days. Click here to donate!

I've spent my career working with people and organizations to help them build their brands. We live in a connected world where that line between a personal and professional persona has become nonexistent. Your brand is you 24/7. This blog is about me and my life. Some of it will relate to my passion for the real estate industry and some of it will just be about me living life and exploring my interests. The opinions expressed here are my own personal opinions.

    1. Thanks Sue! I’ll really be pushing myself but that’s what life is all about. The battle I’ll have over that 26.2 miles is nothing compared to the brave men and women who battle cancer everyday. I’m just glad I can help in this small way.
